Festa de Santa Rita / Saint Rita's Party

Em 2018, a Festa de Santa Rita voltou a ganhar vida após 49 anos de bloqueio. Celebra-se não só com uma missa e uma pequena reunião no terceiro sábado ou domingo de maio, mas também uma grande festa no primeiro fim-de-semana de Setembro por recomendação do nosso Padre António Costa devido a rivalidades com os organizadores de outra festa desta paróquia no segundo fim de semana de maio.

A festa de Santa Rita, em Setembro, dura três dias (de sexta a domingo). No domingo há uma celebração especial com uma grande missa seguida de uma procissão. Também atuam vários músicos tocando canções populares durante os três dias, e há uma equipe completa de voluntários servindo comidas e bebidas tradicionais a preços acessíveis.

NOTA: Após o surgimento da pandemia da covid-19, a festa foi suspensa temporariamente, mas quando tudo estava pronto para ser retomada, em 2022, por exigência do pároco, não será mais realizada devido ás rivalidades e conflitos de interesses com outra comissão de festas da paróquia, deixando os fiéis da parte alta da freguesia revoltados. Alguns destes fiéis uniram-se e fizeram uma nova edição da festa em 2023, contudo, sem o apoio da paróquia pelo que a festa assume apenas carácter profano.

In 2018, Saint Rita's Party came to life again after being blocked for 49 years. It's celebrated not only with a mass and a small meeting on the third Saturday or Sunday of May, but also a big party on the first weekend of September by recomendation of our Priest António Costa due to rivalries with organizers of another party of this parish on the second weekend of May . 

Saint Rita's September party lasts three days (from Friday to Sunday). There's a special celebration on Sunday with a big mass followed by a procession, as well as several musicians playing popular songs all the three days, and there's a full team of volunteers serving traditional food and drinks at accessible prices.

NOTE: After the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was temporarily suspended. However, in 2022, by the stubbornness of the parish priest, it will no longer be held due to rivalries and conflicts of interest with another festival committee in the parish, leaving the faithful from the upper part of the parish outraged. Some of these faithful joined together and organized a new edition of the party in 2023; however, without the support of the parish, the party takes on a purely secular character.

Santa Rita de Cássia foi uma santa católica italiana, nascida Margherita Lotti em 1381, na cidade de Roccaporena, perto de Cássia, na região da Úmbria, Itália. Ela é venerada como uma das santas mais populares da Igreja Católica.

A vida de Santa Rita de Cássia é conhecida pela sua devoção, caridade e paciência diante das dificuldades. Santa Rita foi uma esposa dedicada e mãe de filhos gêmeos. Após a morte do seu marido e filhos, ela ingressou em um convento agostiniano, onde viveu uma vida de oração e penitência.

Um dos aspectos mais conhecidos de sua vida é o episódio em que, segundo a tradição, ela teria recebido uma ferida na testa semelhante à coroa de espinhos de Cristo. Essa ferida, que causava grande sofrimento a Santa Rita, era considerada um sinal da graça divina. Ela é frequentemente representada nas artes com uma rosa e uma ferida na testa.

St. Rita of Cascia was an Italian Catholic saint, born Margherita Lotti in 1381 in the town of Roccaporena, near Cascia, in the Umbria region of Italy. She is venerated as one of the most popular saints in the Catholic Church.

The life of St. Rita of Cascia is known for her devotion, charity, and patience in the face of difficulties. St. Rita was a dedicated wife and mother of twin sons. After the death of her husband and sons, she entered an Augustinian convent, where she lived a life of prayer and penance.

One of the most well-known aspects of her life is the episode in which, according to tradition, she received a wound on her forehead similar to the crown of thorns of Christ. This wound, which caused great suffering to St. Rita, was considered a sign of divine grace. She is often depicted in art with a rose and a wound on her forehead.

St. Rita of Cascia was canonized by the Catholic Church on May 24, 1900, by Pope Leo XIII. She is the patron saint of impossible causes, desperate situations, and mothers. Her feast day is celebrated on May 22, but in Souto Redondo, it is celebrated on the first weekend of October to avoid conflicts with the celebration of the feast of Our Lady of the Hour, which takes place the weekend before May 22. The virtues and story of St. Rita have inspired believers throughout the centuries.
